Farid Chedid is the Founder, Chairman and CEO of the Chedid Capital Holding group of companies. Starting with the founding of Chedid Re in 1998, Mr. Chedid embarked on a two-decade journey building one of the region’s premier insurance and reinsurance group across the Middle East, Africa and parts of Europe. For more than a decade, Mr. Chedid has been listed among the top 50 most influential members of the regional insurance industry. He has been publicly recognized with a number of awards, including the “Middle East and Africa Industry Achiever of the Year 2016”. Mr. Chedid is a member of the board of Endeavor, Lebanon; a member of Human Rights Watch, Beirut Committee; a UNDP Goodwill Ambassador; and a Fellow of the Middle East Leadership Initiative (MELI), among others.
Fadi Mutlak is a Partner and the Leader of the Cyber Risk Services Practice with Deloitte in the Middle East. With over 19 years of Information Technology and Security related experience, Mr. Mutlak is a capabilities-oriented security specialist with notable success directing a broad range of corporate Cyber Security initiatives participating in strategy, planning, analysis, and implementation of information-security solutions in direct support of business objectives. He is a regular public speaker in many forums across the ME region and is heavily involved in the set up and delivery of various training initiatives for staff and clients. Sylvia Gonner is Vice President of Global Relations & Development at The Institute of Internal Auditors (The IIA) Global Headquarters where she has been managing The IIA’s globalization efforts since 1998. She oversees relations with The IIA’s 100+ affiliates around the world, and development strategies and programs that deliver value-added services to IIA members worldwide. Ms. Gonner holds a Master’s Degree in International Studies from Florida International University and has 25 years of experience working for global membership associations such as the Junior Chamber International and The Institute of Internal Auditors. She holds the Certified Association Executives (CAE) certification awarded by the American Society of Association Executives.
Mohamed Daoud is a strategic leader and seasoned professional with more than 25 years of experience in Banking and Finance in the US, Europe and the Middle-East with special focus during the last 10 years on Governance, Risk & Compliance. Mohamed brings a wide experience in the various domains of Governance, Risk, and Compliance strategy, effective corporate governance, and reputation risk including Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorist Financing with Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC) programs. He is one of the main speakers in different compliance forums, summits and conferences in MENA, Africa and Russia. He led several compliance consulting projects related to good practices in managing regulations and reputation risk policy. He has a deep understanding of compliance processes, requirements and solutions.
Malek Costa is the Head of Compliance Division at BLOM BANK Group since 2009. He is also a member in several BLOM BANK Board and Management Committees, he represents the Bank in the Compliance Committee of “Association des Banques du Liban” (ABL). He joined BLOM BANK in 2001 as Deputy Manager in the Internal Audit Department; in 2007 he was appointed Head of AML Unit. Prior to joining BLOM BANK, he worked at Arthur Andersen – Lebanon for 7 years and left it with an External Audit Manager title. He maintains active involvement in the Institute of Internal Auditors – Lebanon Chapter; he served as President of the Board (2014-2016), and currently is a Board member of IIA Lebanon. Gerard Brennan CFE, MBA, PhD is Audit Technologies Director for Libra, a US-based software company that automates and optimizes financial business processes for professionals who interact with distributed and decentralized technologies (i.e. Blockchain, Smart Contracts, DLT, Cryptocurrencies etc.) helping develop innovative/continuous audit and reporting solutions.
Mr. Brennan is an audit praticisoner, frequent speaker and published researcher on the topics of continuous auditing, monitoring, analytics, and blockchain, he is the former Audit Director and NA Risk and Internal Control Officer for Siemens Corp. and an Adjunct Professor in Rutgers University MBA program teaching “Advanced Auditing and Info Technology”.
Farid Aractingi led the Audit, Risk and Organization department of Renault, since 2012 when he was instrumental in the re-organization of the group and its governance structure. He also chairs RNC, a consulting firm focused on operational excellence, with profitable revenue of 50 M€.
Until 2011, he served as Chief Audit Executive of Renault for 5 years, during which time he transformed the traditional Internal Audit Department into a strategic business partner and defined the concept of “lean audit” based on three pillars: cross-functionality, basic controls and “pragmatic courage”. Born in Lebanon, Mr. Aractingi holds an MS in Engineering from the French Ecole des Mines, a BA in History, and an AMP from Wharton in Philadelphia, USA.
Christian Van Nedervelde is Senior Vice President, Internal Audit at SES, the world’s leading provider of satellite telecommunication services. Christian joined SES in 2002 in the aim of implementing and developing the corporate Internal Audit function. Prior to his role in SES, he served as Chief Internal Auditor in the airline industry (Sabena and Luxair) and as Head of Finance for the Outstations at Sabena. He previously held various leading positions in Information Technology and Systems Development within the insurance and manufacturing industries. He is board member of IIA Luxembourg and Vice-President Europe of UFAI and a regular speaker on topics of integrated GRC practice as well as compliance and regulatory governance.
Paul Welton (CPFA) is the Lead Financial Management Specialist for the Mashreq Country Management Unit of the World Bank. Prior to this, he performed similar roles for the World Bank in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Rwanda. He is the Task Team Leader for the Strengthening Fiscal Governance Project in Lebanon. Mr. Welton is an experienced “Big 4” Consulting Director having worked with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) for over 17 years (1994-2011). He has worked across many sectors including health, infrastructure, and water, and worked with clients in both Private and Public Sectors, at both National and Subnational level.
Karem Obeid, IIA Global Board Member, IIA Global Executive Committee Member (Vice – Chairman, Global Services) and UAE IAA Executive Committee member, has more than 23 years of internal audit experience in various industries. He assumed internal audit leadership roles in several leading companies in the Middle East region such as Tawazun Economic Council, Dubai Holding and Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX). Karem holds a MBA degree with emphasis on Industrial and Manufacturing Leadership. His earlier education includes a Bachelor in Business Administration from the American University of Beirut. Also, Mr. Obeid attained several related professional certifications like CIA, CPA, CCSA, CISA and CRMA. As an active member of the profession, he is instrumental in promoting the Internal Audit profession in the Middle East region. He also has been frequently invited to speak in local and international conferences and has contributed to several publications related to the profession.
Mohamad is a Certified Internal Auditor with experience in Internal Audit, Governance, Risk Management and Compliance. Mohamad is an Internal Audit practitioner and is currently the Head of Internal Audit at Banque Misr Liban (BML) in Beirut, Lebanon. He is a former Governor with the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) (Lebanon Chapter) and currently a Board Member with the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (Lebanon Chapter). Mohamad previously worked with both Deloitte Enterprise Risk Services (ERS) in the Middle East and Ernst & Young Business Risk Services (BRS) in Doha, Qatar. He is also a professional trainer and speaker on matters related to Compliance, Governance, Fraud, Risk and Internal Audit.
Mr. Zaghloul is the managing partner of Consilium and supervises the practice of Governance, Risk and Compliance accompanying the Internal Audit, Risk Managers and Compliance Officers departments. He manages implementation programs of Risk Management, Internal Control and Internal Audit framework. In addition, he is President of the Moroccan Institute of internal auditors and contributes to several conferences as speaker on topics such as Governance, Compliance and Internal Control. He conducted an ambitious strategy of advocacy with Government institutions, institute of corporate directors, institute of chartered accountant and the Moroccan Supreme Audit Institution. He sits on various audit committees in Africa and Europe and he recently joined the IIA Global IRC committee.
Mr. Achraf Zaim is a Partner in PwC’s Middle East Forensic Services practice and is based in the United Arab Emirates. Mr. Zaim has more than 18 years of experience where for the past 15 years he has focused on providing his clients and their legal advisors with strategic advice in support of their efforts to manage the complexities of large investigations, disputes, litigations, and anti-corruption and fraud risk management initiatives. Mr. Zaim is a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. He is the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Fraud Sub-Group of the Institute of Internal Auditors – UAE Chapter.
Larry Hubbard is a professional trainer and consultant with a broad background in accounting, auditing and finance. His experience includes audit management; information systems, financial, and operational auditing; financial reporting; consulting and training; and organization directorship. Larry is a frequent author, course leader, and speaker for The Institute of Internal Auditors and other professional organizations. Larry specializes in internal audit quality assessments, internal controls and risk management.
With dual French and Lebanese citizenship, Joëlle Cattan is attorney at law and mediator by education and practice. She is also novelist and poet. Maître Cattan holds an Advanced Degree in Private Law (DEA) from the «Paris II Panthéon- Assas» University in Paris, and a double education in Law and Mediation from «Saint Joseph University of Beirut» (USJ).
It is in Paris that Joëlle Cattan starts her carrier as Lawyer at the Paris Bar, by joining the «Borloo Saigne et Associés» Law firm, where she acquires years of experience.
Subsequently, in Lebanon and in Ecuador, she holds various management positions, such as Director General of the «Lebanese Businessmen Association » (RDCL). She also founds the first banking mediation unit within a banking institution.
